David Hockney
David Hockney is a UK based artist, living in yorkshire, He is a well known painter, print maker and photographer.
He also was a keen contributor to the 'Pop' Art movement in the 1960s and made a massive impact on the pop art scene. He is to be considered to be one of the most influential British Artist of the twenty century.
Here this image,is similar to one of the techniques that richard had shown us in class. it gives the same effect as this with the sky line, light blue wash of colour and the patchy colour this could be accomplished by using masking tape to create different lines and shapes.
This image really stands out to be because of the use of square block images overlapping to create a peculiar image which i think is really strong.
This image here is a again one of David Hockney's images were you can clearly see the image i think again the use of flat colour and shading, is really strong i believe this is the strongest, area of the image, i would really like to try and interpret some of the imagery in my own work.
Overall i think that David Hockney is great artist, I really like his use of flat colour and the techniques what he use's are great and would like to use some of the techniques to create my own piece.
Lyonel Charles Feininger
Lyonel was a German / American based artist who lived from 1871-1956. His key areas of work were.. Painting, caricaturist, and comic strip artist. He also was a leading exponent of Expressionism, which is a modernist movement, which was to express a mood or an idea. He studied at one of Germanys prestigious art schools. He worked in the magazine and newspaper industry for around 20 years both in the USA and in Germany, building his repetition, and gaining various exposure.
he worked for 20 years for various newspapers and magazines both in the USA and Germany. His Career as a cartoonist started in early 1894, were in which he worked for several German, French and American magazine's some of his worked during this era was considered to be outstanding
Various comic straps which Feininger created, were noted for there fey humor and the graphic experimentation.
I like Feininger use of blocked shapes to create, outline and abstract background i think his use or color and compensation is outstanding, In this piece I love the use of dark colors and the texture in which you can see by observing the image.
In the second picture shown the right, he has created a city scape using again the same techniques, which now i can see is shown whiten all of his work from researching him, the scene looks as if it has been taken from a hotel balcony, the reason I suggest this is the red and yellow blocked areas responsible curtains, again the use of blocked shape, I would some what like to use this style whiten my work, again the use of only 3 colors for the city buildings really bring out the windows.
Overall, I like his stye of work but compared to david hockney, I much prefer Hockney however there style's are similar by there use of blocked shapes. But beacuse of Hockneys more suttle use of the i prefer himself. However i can see why Feininger was such a popular artist in his era.
